A South African Medical Dr who asked to remain anonymous took Ivermectin(a drug intended for animals) after he succumbed to COVID-19 symptoms and claims that he has fully recovered. While there are approved uses for ivermectin in humans, it is not approved for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

The South African Health authorities says the pill can have severe side effects such as blindness, skin rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. However, the Dr who took them claims that he had minimal side effects and no major severe effects.

Despite the warnings from health authorities, the demand for the drug in the black market seems to be increasing. Recently the police arrested a 43-year-old man for the possession of illegal ivermectin valued at R100 000.00, They have also raided Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital in Durban, which they alleged was dispensing the banned drug.
